Dear Sir/Madam
I am responding to your job vacancy advertisement in the Straits Times dated Monday 30th August 2010. I am a fresh graduate from the National University of Singapore majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I would like to apply for the position of M&E Engineer as stated in the advertisement.
As you will find in my attached Resume, I have experience working as an intern in the field of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. I am sure the knowledge I have acquired in this domain would be relevant to the required job. I have worked on large-scale M&E Projects related to the Construction Industry, which would help me adapt to the job scope for the position. As Chairman of the Mauritian Students’ Group, I have also acquired significant interpersonal and leadership skills.
I am available at any time for an eventual interview. I look forward to hearing from you soon to set up a meeting. My mobile number is +6590374269. You can also contact me via email at yashfeer@nus.edu.sg
Sincerely
MUTTUR Mohammad Yashfeer
Hi Yashfeer :)
ReplyDeleteYour letter sounds concrete because it is stated that you have acquired experience from your internship; which is an advantage. However, you can also elaborate what are your experiences and knowledge acquired during the internship and list your relevant technical skills more apparently to make your letter more complete. It could also be better if you can describe what are your "acquired significant interpersonal and leadership skills"; like how your leadership skills as the Chairman helped to solve problems faced by your group. It would be good if you can write one paragraph about your technical skills, and dedicate another paragraph to your soft skills which is highly regarded by employers nowadays. I think your signing off should be "Yours Faithfully" instead of "Sincerely" because the latter is written when we know the name of the person we are writing to. Overall your letter has an appropriate tone, just a little brief. Keep going! :)
Hi Yashfeer, a quick glance tells me that this is not enough. This letter is too short to do you justice, definitely. I look forward to reading a more detailed version soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Yashfeer,
ReplyDeleteI think that you should elaborate more on what you actually learned from being an intern or what specific skills you acquired from the experience. Basically, give examples, as what Wanqi said.
Hi Yashfeer,
ReplyDeleteI think you can elaborate more on the soft skills which are related to the job that can bring you more credit. For example, communication skills and the ability to work in group or individually.
You can say what you gain and achieve as a "Chairperson", not "Chairman" of the Mauritian Students’ Group. How does the position in the student group helps you in your career? How can you contribute to the company with the experience you gained in internship and activities.
Overall, this application letter gives a concise picture of your working potential and personality. Providing more information about yourself is important so that the reader has a better idea about you ability.
Hi Yashfeer!
ReplyDeleteBesides including your experiences and skills as mentioned by wanqi and fang yong, you may also want to talk about how you can contribute to the company, basically drawing the links between your strengths and how that makes you suited for the job position.
It would be good if you can elaborate more on your experiences, especially since they are relevant to the position of M&E Engineer as you have stated in your letter above. I think employers would be looking out for people who have experience in the field of work.
Hope my comments were of help to you (:
